On April 25, 2026, spring along the Charles River still carried a cool breeze. Although the flowers had not yet fully bloomed, a group of volunteers wearing Taiwanese @ Boston T-shirts brought warmth to the riverbank through action, care, and service.

They walked along the river, bent down to pick up trash, and carefully cleaned each area they passed. This was more than an environmental cleanup. It was one of Brookline Taiwanese Chamber Foundation’s first major charitable actions and a sincere gift to the shared land and community we call home.

For a long time, when people hear the phrase Taiwan Can Help, they may think of international aid, medical support, or Taiwan’s contributions to global public issues. Through this Charles River cleanup, BTCF hoped to give that phrase a more local, tangible, and everyday meaning.

Taiwan Can Help does not only happen on the international stage. It can begin in the neighborhoods where we live. It can be picking up one piece of trash, cleaning one section of riverbank, preserving a cleaner environment for the next generation, and allowing local communities in the United States to feel the goodwill, responsibility, and action of Taiwanese people.

From one piece of paper to one bag of collected trash, every simple action became a concrete expression of public service. These small acts reminded us that charity and civic responsibility are not abstract ideas; they are choices we make with our time, our hands, and our presence.

During this event, BTCF not only gathered volunteers to participate in the cleanup, but also supported the Charles River Conservancy through registration fees and donations. Each participant’s effort was not merely a gesture of helping out; it was a real contribution to river ecology, public space, and the local community.

We deeply believe that service is not a slogan. It is action. Real influence does not come only from business success, but also from whether a community is willing to give back, serve others, and participate in public life.

Brookline Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce has long worked to connect Taiwanese people locally, promote business exchange, mutual support, and community cohesion. The creation of Brookline Taiwanese Chamber Foundation represents a further step: expanding this connection from business and networking into broader social participation and charitable impact.

BTCF’s mission is not only to bring the Taiwanese community together, but also to build a deeper and longer-lasting positive presence in Greater Boston through culture, education, service, and charitable action. The Charles River Community Cleanup was a concrete expression of this mission.

For many Taiwanese people living in Boston, this city is not just a temporary stop. We study here, work here, build businesses here, raise families here, and live our daily lives here. Boston is also our home.

That is why participating in the Charles River cleanup carried a message beyond environmental awareness. It was also an expression of gratitude to this place. We wanted the local community to see that Taiwanese people do not merely live here; we participate here. We do not only receive opportunities from this city; we are also willing to give back to it.

As volunteers cleaned along the riverbank, the work became more than physical labor. It became a community commitment. We care not only about economic growth, but also about public spaces. We care not only about the outcome of one event, but also about the kind of community we leave for the next generation.

One of the most moving parts of the day was not only seeing the riverbank become cleaner, but also seeing the unity among volunteers. Some participants were joining a charitable service event for the first time, and some came from outside the immediate area. People gathered because of their connection to Taiwan, their support for public service, and their concern for the community.

This participation across different backgrounds and locations is exactly the kind of community strength BTCF hopes to build. We believe service can become a bridge that connects Taiwanese people. Through serving the community together, strangers become familiar, individual participation becomes collective action, and shared values become visible.

This process not only strengthens the Taiwanese community, but also allows more local communities in the United States to see the enthusiasm, responsibility, and goodwill of Taiwanese people. It helps transform Taiwan Can Help from a phrase into something people can witness and feel.

The Charles River cleanup was only the beginning of BTCF’s journey in public service. In the future, Brookline Taiwanese Chamber Foundation will continue promoting activities related to culture, education, charity, and community service. Through each action, we hope the strength of the Taiwanese community will move beyond our own circles and truly enter the broader community.

For BTCF, service is not an optional side project. It is one of the central reasons the foundation exists. We hope to build a Taiwanese community that is not only successful, but also generous; not only visible, but also willing to shine light for others.

Taiwan Can Help can begin with one river. It can begin with one act of bending down to pick up trash. It can begin with every Taiwanese person who is willing to give back.

The Charles River cleanup was just a starting point. BTCF sincerely invites more friends to join future charitable efforts, whether you are Taiwanese in Greater Boston, a friend who supports Taiwan, or a partner who cares about the community and the environment.

Together, we can turn the spirit of Taiwan Can Help from a slogan into action: from Boston, from our neighborhoods, and from the hands of each person willing to serve.

Together, we can give back.

Together, Taiwan Can Help.
